As with the larger data set, we analysed the percentage of .eu IDNs with active name servers or redirects, with the following results:
- Highest rate of active nameservers for Latin script IDNs (40%, 68% if combined with redirects)
- Lowest rate of active nameservers for Greek script IDNs (6%, 11% if combined with redirects)
- Increase in redirects in Latin script in 2015 (to 28%, an increase of 18% since 2013)
- Decline in rates of active usage (ie active nameservers plus redirects) across all scripts compared with 2013.
The well-known difficulties of hybrid IDNs help to explain the disparities in usage rates, and emphasise the importance of having fully internationalised domain names.
