Cyrillic script domain name community promote universal acceptance

Members of the Cyrillic script domain community are collaborating to improve universal acceptance.  In April 2019, a new group – Universal Acceptance Regional Coordination Group of CIS and Eastern Europe at a meeting in Moscow to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the .ru domain.  Founding members of the group were the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ and IDN ccTLD registries from Ukraine, Belarus, Serbia and Armenia as well as New gTLDs .ДЕТИ, .РУС, .МОСКВА.

In September 2019, the group expanded to include new participants from Georgia, Ukraine, Latvia, Lithuania and Serbia. Following its expansion, the group comprises representatives from eight countries (Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia, Serbia, Lithuania and Latvia) and 13 IDN top-level domains (.РФ, .МОСКВА, .ДЕТИ, .SU, .հայ,. BEL, .UKR, .UA, .გე, .СРБ, .RS, .LT and .LV). 

The group’s chair, Maria Kolesnikova highlighted the importance of universal acceptance, ‘Interaction between different companies and organizations at both the regional and global levels is very important to ensure equal support for all domains and email addresses in all applications.’
