The Chinese ccTLD is still the largest second level IDN space after its growth spurt in 2016 by over 2 million domains under .cn. However, 2017 lacks updated data on .cn, as the data is no longer published or shared by CNNIC, the Chinese registry operator. The data published for .cn is an estimate based on figures from 2016.
The next largest second-level IDN spaces are .com and .de (Germany). Vietnam’s .vn was in third place in 2016, but doesn’t rank in the top 20 in 2017, due to a dramatic decrease in its IDNs following a change of policy implemented in early 2017. The European ccTLD, .eu, is among the top 20 second level IDN registries.
