The rate of active nameservers for IDNs at the second level (61%) is higher than that of IDNs at the top level (31%).
Results vary widely depending on the level of the IDN, script and individual TLDs.
IDNs at the second level
On average, the rate of active nameservers for IDNs at the second level is 61%. Looking at the 20 largest second level IDNs spaces, .com (the largest) has an active rate of 65%, and .eu 75%. The highest rate of active nameservers was seen in .berlin (94%) and the lowest .sport (0%).
IDNs at the top level
On average, the rate of active nameservers for IDNs at the top level is 31%. The 20 largest top level IDN spaces show a wide range of active rates, from 93% in קום to 21% in .ею.
The purpose of this analysis is not to pass any judgement on the usage rates within a particular TLD, but to eliminate from further analysis those domains categorized as inactive.
